Description

The project's aim is promotion of intercultural skills and improvement of understanding about national identity issues through educational activities eliminating discrimination and developing tolerance for the children of Latgale region out-of-home-care institutions. Target audience: Children of out of family care institutions. Main activities are related to the integration of minority children in the society and learning Latvian language, common features and different nuances of ethnic rituals in the calendar holidays, as well as public awareness activities on the need for dialogue between cultures. Contribution to the Partnership: Stronger links with neighboring countries - Russia and Belarus, the identification of common cultural field and project is integrated within advanced technologies in collaboration with NGO "Projekts Videoatmiņa". Planned results: Target audience is introduced with the different cultural heritage, national holidays and traditions; also it has improved knowledge of Latvian language and the knowledge of Latvian geography, history and culture.

Summary of project results

The need of the project was identified by the lack of awareness for risk group children of the importance of intercultural dialogue in today's multicultural society. The aim – encouraging intercultural communication skills for Latgale region out of family care institutions children and young people, developing a better understanding of national identity and providing educational activities that prevent discrimination and develop tolerance.In these institutions teacher worked with children from the orphanage and classes were held in each of the non-family care institution. The main benefit - improved and expanded out of family care institutions knowledge about the various aspects of intercultural dialogue and risks for young people, so that we can conclude that the project’s objectives are fully met and the results put into Latvian society.The target groups of the Project were various groups of people: 111 minorities, 13 Latvians. As well as NVO’s representing the above groups of people's rights and interests, including: 50 members, 3 employees, 68 volunteers. The project has contributed to, as well as affected II areas of support "unified society" outside family care institutions for young people living in welfare gains and supplemented their knowledge about the need for dialogue between cultures and the importance of further unified Latvian society and existence. Therefore, it has encouraged the public welfare and availability of social services to the target group who have become more knowledgeable, tolerant and cognizant providing quality civic participation.The project partners - the NGO "Projekts Videoatmiņa" and the Russian Federation "Independent Women's Social Centre" gave their unique experience with risk youth and contributed to the planned results. With the project partners there will be signed cooperation agreements for further activities and new projects for joint implementation. There already have been positive indications about further partnership between the organizations to develop new international projects.
