Description

The aim of the project is to promote the integration of Roma into society to reduce discrimination against Roma, promote public tolerance and strengthen public awareness of Latgale region. The main activities are evenings of Roma and Latvian culture and history, Latvian and Roma language training, workshops, intercultural evenings, concerts at Latvian and Roma festivals, shooting a film about the Roma cultural contribution to the Latvian cultural space and activities implemented in the project. The project aims to promote positive attitudes towards Roma in the region, as well as cooperation between the Roma community and the society, to develop solidarity and promote tolerance among the society to promote social cohesion and dialogue between different cultures and people. The film will provide information to the public about the positive sides of the Roma life that will reduce the negative attitudes in society and create a more positive image of Roma people among the population.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to promote the intercultural dialogue between representatives of different nationalities and strengthening of identity of representatives of Roma nationality, as well the integration into society, thereby reducing discrimination level of Roma and promoting tolerance of society toward the representatives of Roma nationality within the region. The project was implemented in planning region of Latgale, Daugavpils The project target group consisted of: - Representatives of national minorities 90 - Non-citizens 20 - Latvians 13 - NGOs representing the above groups of people's rights and interests, including: - 25 members - 2 employees - 15 volunteers The main results achieved: - 15 draft articles distributed on websites and in newspapers - Creation of an ensemble of 15 people, 86 rehearsals - Latvian language courses, 86 lessons, 28 participants - 45 Romani language classes, 20 participants - 4 workshops (Christmas, Easter, Pine, Sewing), 29 participants - Commonwealth evening "Lāčplēsis" and concert Valentine's Day, 25 participants - 5 nights of Roma cultural traditions, 30 participants - 5 Latvian tradition evenings, 41 participants - 4 concerts, 200 people - A film in Latvian, Russian and Romani language
