Description

Each child has the rights to be loved, cherished, protected, respected and heard. . The project's aim is to create a multi-sectoral, complex approach to violence prevention, child protection and promotion of welfare in three Latvian regions as a pilot project to be implemented in other regions as well, to strengthen and develop capacity of professionals working with children and families, to promote their cooperation, to involve children, families (especially fathers) and communities, to create a violence-free child-safe and child-friendly environment, thus reducing the social exclusion risks. Within the project a situation analysis in the regions will be carried out, a strategy on family friendly environment will be drafted in collaboration with the local experts, capacity of NGOs and volunteers working with children and families will be promoted by introducing new services or new support mechanisms. The project target group is children, young people, families with children, the NGO members, employees and volunteers.

Summary of project results

Objectives of the Project have been achieved-children, families (especially men), other social parties were involved in several activities in order to create a violence-free community, a safe environment for children to reduce the risks of social exclusion. To analyze existing situation a questionnaire for children were carried out along with organized seminars for parents and other involved persons. All activities helped to ensure that development strategy accounts opinions of all involved parties opinions. Project supported creation of ‘The Father and Guardian Angels’ group activities in participating in 10 municipalities. Specialists have drawn strategies for them and pre-school education institutions; therefore Project has contributed in prosperity increase. Methodological Documents are available on www.centrsdardedze.lv. Educational leaflets for parents and teachers and informational materials for Family Doctors have been created. Project has invested in educational seminars for specialists who work with endangered families and children to strengthen their positions and develop their knowledge. Dzimba’s Agents have popularized volunteering. An expert from Island held seminar on ‘Child Abuse: International laws guidelines and good practices’ for specialists from municipalities and state institutions. Project partner engagement in the Project is evaluated as positive. Specialists from 10 municipalities were responsive and took an active participation in all activities. The Project has ensured that ‘The Guardian Angel’ classes are available to communities in municipalities. Dzimba’s Agents continue to held classes for children. In pre-school educational institutions and municipalities developed strategies are implemented. Mutual cooperation between involved parties of The Project is considered as positive. Specialists have exchanged their knowledge and new know-how techniques are used in specialists every day work.
