Description

The main challenges for ensuring active and positive long-term influence on the public policy are engaging of outstanding experts, ensuring financial sustainability and maintaining a good reputation. In order to provide the indispensable advocacy work, it is necessary not only to find funding for research projects, but also for projects aimed to enactment of the research results into the policy process through advocacy work. The aim of the project is to contribute to improved quality of politics in Latvia with regard to good governance, transparency, participatory democracy, human rights, environment and sustainable development. The main activities within the project include a research, analysis of the findings, active participation in working groups and committee meetings, advocacy activities and development of society participatory tools. Target group of the project are NGOs and the Latvian society.

Summary of project results

The project was needed to strengthen PROVIDUS administrative capacity when dealing with public governance monitoring questions. The results of the project will be used to write new project proposals in this way strengthening the involvement of experts in public policy decision making and monitoring. The aim was to invest in evidence based decision making in the public policy field in Latvia, giving special attention to public governance monitoring and participation questions in decision making. The aim was achieved; experts from PROVIDUS receive more invitations from public offices to participate in working groups. The project has encouraged the development of public involvement in policy making to a great extent, due to articles, blogs, research, opinions. Outputs - research papers, policy analysis, commentaries to media, public online debates and monitoring of policy implementation. Policy makers were involved in planning of the needed policy analysis, responding to their invitations to provide PROVIDUS’ expertise.
