Description

Young people from disadvantaged families or with functional disabilities are exposed to social risk and discrimination mainly due to lack of knowledge, motivation and financing. The Project aims to ensure sustainable development for implementation of social discrimination mitigation measures in Latvia and to encourage participation of society in decision-making processes at local, regional and national level. The project aim will be achieved by building the target group’s awareness of civic participation in decision-making processes, taking active part in policy development, defending target group’s interests by providing consultations both for them and public institutions, involving in a cooperation network at local and regional,national or international level; promoting voluntary work and attracting new members, raising funds. Main project target groups are NGO members and young people from disadvantaged families.

Summary of project results

The program aims at ensuring the sustainable development of the organization for the implementation of social discrimination mitigation measures throughout the Latvian territory and to promote civil participation of policy and decision-making processes at local, regional and national level. The target groups of the project were 6 NGO, NGO participants - 51 volunteers. Population - 348 directly, who took part in educational activities, 500 directly, a contribution from the Society held in shares and indirectly, 540, which was referred to the experience. The following results have been achieved: • Organized 66 educational and information activities; • In civil awareness-raising actions involved 508 children and young people; • Organization has taken part in 36 legislative hearings or working groups; • Provided support with food, household goods, clothing, medicine for 926 children and surveillance maintained of children's rights in 36 families; • Studied experience of 14 Latvian and 14 foreign non-governmental organizations; • Organized 3 exhibitions, 28 Youth club donation kiosk visits and attracted 83 volunteers; • Prepared and submitted 18 project proposals; • Organized two press conferences and in the organization's website published 28 articles on program activities. Programs as a result of social discrimination at risk children and young people have participated in educational activities and built their confidence and skills, thus realized himself as an equal part of society. Received positive feedback and positive youth programs experience transferred to other target groups of young people who were involved in other activities organized. The good practice gained in implementing the program and the identification of other NGOs, has improved the organization's daily work, while jointly launched cooperation activities with both NGOs and strengthen cooperation with government institutions will strengthen the program's results impact the continuation for at least 2 years after the project completion report has been approved. Program have publicity and volunteer promotion measures have increased the visibility of the organization and helped to attract new sources of funding and volunteers who continue to work after the end of the project and will increase the organization's capacity.
