Description

There are two adjacent communities that have little interest in each other. The project will strengthen democratic values in Gluda and Jaunsvirlauka parishes by promoting intercultural dialogue and social consolidation. Activities include integration of Slavic people into Latvian society, introduction to Slavic and Latvian traditions and learning about the differences and similarities in both cultures, creating educational materials in Latvian and Russian about traditions and seasonal celebrations of both cultures. There will be seminars and workshops organised, a seasonal feast with Slavic folk groups „Slavjanočki”, „Raduga” and Latvian folk groups, which take place in Gluda and Jaunsvirlauka parish, in addition a book on Seasonal feast traditions of Slavic and Latvian will be printed in Latvian and Russian. Summary of project results

The aim of the project was to strengthen democratic values in Glūda and Jaunsvirlauka rural municipalities through intercultural dialogue and community integration, implemented via educational activities about Slavic and Latvian traditional culture heritage. In order to reach the target, during seasonal feasts (autumn, winter, spring and summer) the inhabitants were introduced to Slavic and Latvian traditional culture heritage and seasonal feast traditions. People got to know more about Slavic and Latvian cuisines and food cultures, Slavic and Latvian traditional interior decorations and Slavic and Latvian traditional costume decorations. All project activities were organized so that workshop and event participants would recognize the common traits in both cultures and get to know more about their own as well as the other culture and their traditions. All planned quantitative and qualitative results have been reached during the project: 1)36 culture event organizers have participated in a two-day training seminar in Rucava region and acquired new knowledge and skills for organizing seasonal feast events for participants of different ethnicities; 2)43 socially active Glūda and Jaunsvirlauka parish inhabitants, including also ethnic minorities under the risk of social exclusion, attended 6 training and practical workshops in which they learned about Slavic and Latvian traditional cuisines, Slavic and Latvian traditional interior decoration and costume decoration; 3)more than 100 Glūda and Jaunsvirlauka parish inhabitants have attended Slavic and Latvian seasonal feast celebration events and received informative brochures in Russian and Latvian languages about seasonal feast (autumn, winter, spring and summer) celebration traditions; 4)in the opening seminar of the project 46 participans were introduced to the aim of the project, its tasks, requirements of the co-financers and the evaluation of the two-day training seminar in Rucava; 5)in the closing seminar of the project 64 participants were introduced to the evaluation of all project activities; 6)Slavic folklore group „Slavjanočki” and Slavic folklore ensemble „Raduga” acquired 22 new concert costumes with the financial support of the project;
