Description

Rural municipalities lack the resources to provide public social activities, as a result population of villages is rapidly decreasing. Aim of the project is to increase the role of NGO sector in rural development and in improvement of local community’s quality of life; enhance the capacity of NGO in the decision-making processes. Project implementation would address a number of problems in Jēkabpils region NGO sector: lack of sector long-term development plan, lack of a representative institution that reflects common views, lack of consistent information flow, insufficient coverage of the NGO sector activities. The number of NGO members and volunteers will be increased. Main beneficiaries of the project will be NGO members, Kaldabruņa villagers and residents of Rubenes parish.

Summary of project results

The project aims - to increase the role of the NGO sector in the development of the rural territories, the sectors capacity in the process of making decisions and its role in increasing the quality of life in the local communities. The target group – 20 NGO, 123 NGO participants (74 NGO members, 9 employees, 40 volunteers, 3000 Kaldabruņas, Gārsenes, Ancenes, Zasas, Liepu inhabitants Project will be implemented in Zemgales region, Jēkabpils municipality, Kaldabruņas, Gārsenes, Ancenes, Zasas, Liepu parish. The main results of the project: Established Augšzemes Rural NGO association,which operates 16 NGOs. Developed Augšzemes Rural NGO association long-term development plan. Ensure the protection of interests of the municipality and the NGO "Rural Partnership Seija" (3 NGO forums, 34 consultations of NGOs on operational development and fundraising issues, prepared and sent out 15 NGO newsletters). The implementation of NGO member and volunteer activities as a result of 18 persons has increased NGO members and the volunteers number of (regular open days, 3 exchange visits, 9 volunteers clean-up). The project implementation activities that provide long-term operation NGO (NGO developed operating plan, prepared 18 project proposals, of which approved and implemented 14 projects).Organized 20 local communities and unifying awareness raising activities.Prepared documents for the establishment a new NGO of Garsene village. A notable sustainability aspect – a function delegation treaty with the self-government was signed ensuring that all the NGO household costs are covered by the municipality. The project considerably favoured the development of civic society in the region of its implementation: representation of a unanimous NGO sector opinion is ensured both on a municipality level and the level of a regional organization; the applicant organization`s membership has increased members and the volunteers number of. The regular voluntary activities have ensured growth of the civic consciousness of the local community and its ability to participate regularly and accordingly in increasing the quality of life. The project target group were actively involved in the project activities: possibilities to define voice and defend a unanimous opinion; possibilities to participate in an association that organizes activities on a larger scale, projects on the interests of the regional level NGO sector.
