Description

Community philanthropy is one of the world's successful practices to develop participation of local residents and enterprises in their neighborhood's quality of life. Over the past decade involvement of Latvian citizens in charity activities has increased, but significant challenges still remain. The Project aims to promote community philanthropy in Talsi region and Latvia, promoting participation of inhabitants in improvemnts of life quality in theior neighborhood quality and charity traditions in rural areas, thus strengthening development of social capital and philanthropy. Aim will be achieved by sharing successful experience of community philanthropy in Latvia, organizing Talsi county residents forum and open days, promoting charity donations and fundraising for local community initiatives,social campaigns, stimulating local residents to take initiative to improve quality of life, monitoring the supported projects. Main project target groups are NGO members, local residents.

Summary of project results

The aim of the project is to improve social capital – to develop purposeful philanthropic traditions, to promote community development in Talsi and region and to support public benefit projects and positive social changes in local society. The project target group was 24 NGOs and NGO members: 77 members, 2 officers and 28 volunteers. As well as residents - 42 projects in the program, 596 Social support program, 11 fellows in the program, 74 Interested community philanthropy promotion and development, 4 New Talsi Regional Foundation Board members. During the project, the results achieved: The charity campaign "Skolas soma Talsu pusē" collected donations made it possible to provide support to children from low-income and poor families. The charity campaign "Brīnumam tici" an entrepreneur and private donations from the organized activities for children from low-income and low-income families from Talsi city and county, Talsi Crisis Centre and Strazdes orphanage. Target project "Ūdensprieks" implemented in the summer months, leisure activities, and an average of 10-15 children victims of violence. Leisure time program “Štābiņš’ summer camp "Ūdens pēdas" attended by 30 children from needy families. Target project "Labestības brokastis" elderly Talsi, Dundaga, Roja and Mērsrags counties were delivered in 1100 holiday packages. Target project "Paēdušai Latvijai" during the implementation of Talsi, Dundaga, Roja and Mērsrags counties targeting 445 families received food packages. The project “Ģimenēm ar bērniem invalīdiem” made repairs in the apartment families with two children with special needs. Target project “Neparastā iespēju darbnīca”- education of youth employment were involved 30 young people with low basic skills. Citizen participation Promotion Programme 61 family with children received gifts, which during the summer period and took care Harvest Festival "Apple ball" part of the harvest was donated to other needy families. The charity campaign "Help the victims of fire" in cooperation with Talsi Regional Social Services identified families and assisted five fire victims’ families. The project resulted in the strengthening of the Talsi Regional Fund, as well as the experience gained in the project is able to serve as a resource for other community organizations. The project activities have contributed to charity, including voluntary work, individual donations, corporate philanthropy and foundation formation.
