Description

Young people (14-29 years) account for about 22,5 percent of all residents in Plungė district municipality. Plungė district youth health statistics and health problems analysis revealed negative trends in some health areas: sexual and reproductive health; nutrition and lack of physical activity-related diseases; mental health; injuries and accidents (preventable deaths). The objective of the project is to improve the accessibility and quality of youth-friendly health care services (hereinafter – YFHCS) in Plungė district municipality by implementing a YFHCS model in accordance with the needs of Plungė district municipality's young people. This will be achieved through establishing and equipping a YFHCS coordination center; developing inter-institutional cooperation and building capacity of key YFHCS providers; applying information technologies for promoting YFHCS; providing parents education on teenagers' sexuality issues and on how to speak on various sensitive topics with teenagers; organizing 4 youth health promoting trainings and 1 event as well as establishing 8 publicly available free exercise machines in public space.

Summary of project results

The Project was needed to improve the accessibility and quality of youth-friendly health care services (YFHSC) in Plungė District Municipality. The aim of the Project was achieved through: 1) establishing and equipping YFHCS coordinating center in Public Health Bureau of Plungė District Municipality; 2) providing teamwork training and supervisions for YFHCS providers; 3) organizing 4 youth health promoting trainings and a sport and health festival, which was attended by 100 participants; 4) providing 2 days training for parents on teen sexuality issues; 5) establishing outdoor fitness area; 6) applying information technologies for promoting YFHCS (the system of digital displays broadcasting information on Youth Health Portal and YFHCS has been developed in 5 schools of Plungė District. 6 wi-fi access points ensuring a free access to Youth Health Portal have been established in 6 schools of Plungė District). The Project also included a visit of 3 representatives from Plungė District Municipality Administration and Public Health Bureau of Plungė District Municipality to the Norwegian Project partner (Municipality of Bjerkreim). The partner shared its experience and best practice related to provision of youth-friendly health care services in Norway. 2 representatives from the Norwegian partner also made a good practice exchange visit to Lithuania. As a result of the Project YFHCS model corresponding to the needs of young people in Plungė District Municipality has been implemented. YFHCS model will contribute to the development of healthy lifestyle and complex solution of youth health related problems in Plungė District Municipality.

Summary of bilateral results

In the course of Project implementation 3 representatives from Plungė District Municipality Administration and Public Health Bureau of Plungė District Municipality visited the Project partner in Norway (Municipality of Bjerkreim).The partner shared its experience and best practice related to provision of youth-friendly health care services in Norway. 2 representatives from Municipality of Bjerkreim also made a good practice exchange visit to Lithuania. The guests visited the institutions of Plungė District Municipality related to the health care services and participated in opening of outdoor fitness area.
