Description

The project will seek to reduce secondary waste in landfills. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to purchase modern equipment, it is called shredder, which will crush "the bones" and company will recycle them once more - producing pellets. Another important environmental aspect - the plastic recycling process, there is another by-product - chopped polyethylene film, which can not be recycled into pellets. This requires the purchase of modern equipment - plastcompactor system. This equipment can process small fraction into the agglomerates. The agglomerates are used in pipe casting, tiles, roofing production. In this way, small polyethylene fractions will not appear landfills, and will be used to produce valuable products. JSC “ECSO” plans to modernize the polyethylene washing line. New equipment will allow to wash plastic with the pollution to 70 per cent. In this way, the polyethylene film will be suitable for recycling again.

Summary of project results

JSC Ecso, a company specializing in recycling of secondary waste, implemented the project "The purchase and installation of innovative environmental technologies by UAB Ecso to enable more efficient washing of secondary waste and to reduce the amount of waste entering landfills”. Secondary waste reduction in landfills is the main problem solved by the project. Through plastic recycling JSC Ecso aimed to reduce the amount of plastic in landfills. The company recycles plastic; however, in the process of recycling it produces a by-product – the so called “bones”. This product goes into landfills. Whereas it is a by-product of plastic, it takes several hundred years to decompose. Therefore, to solve this problem, modern equipment was required, i.e. the bone shredder, which is crushing the "bones" and enable their repeated recycling – by turning them into pellets. These pellets can be further used for the production of such products as buckets. JSC Ecso seeks to recycle plastic in such a way that all recycled products are used rather than supplied to landfills. One more by-product – chopped film – is produced in the plastic recycling process, which cannot be further recycled into pellets. JSC Ecso aimed to use this small fraction too. To that end, modern equipment – plastcompactor system – was required. Thanks to this equipment, small fraction now can be processed into agglomerates. The agglomerates are be used in pipe casting, tile and roofing production. In this way, the small fraction is used in the production of the aforesaid products. JSC Ecso is working in polyethylene recycling. It should be noted that not all plastic can be recycled - only the plastic with its contamination not exceeding 18 percent. The film with higher contamination levels cannot be processed and is transported into landfills. To solve this problem, JSC Ecso has modernized the polyethylene washing line. The purchased equipment will enable the washing of polyethylene film with the contamination up to 70 percent. In this way, the film will become suitable for recycling and will not go into landfills.

Summary of bilateral results

The partner's regular business activity is related with green industry innovation. The project partner specializes exclusively in the design of waste treatment and applies the principles of sustainable development in its daily activity. The Project partner participated in implementation of all Project activities: gave consultations ir process of preparing technical specifications for the procurement of the equipment and participated during assembly of equipment and initial start of the technological process.
