Summary of project results

The majority of NGOs in Lithuania focuses on local issues relevant for Lithuania, few regions of the country or one city only, while the ones who would “export” their knowledge and activities to developing countries are rare, their efforts lack consistency while their expert need more in-depth study of ways and methods on meeting the needs of the underdeveloped societies. During the recent decades Lithuania turned from an aid receiving country to the one providing it to others, nevertheless those efforts are rarely backed by NGOs or made visible enough to raise awareness of the society. The project targeted NGO advocacy for humanitarian actions which remained terra incognita in Lithuania due to weak institutional capacities, lack of focused information and proper training for NGO sector. The aim of the project was to enhance the capacities of the Lithuanian NGO sector and encourage volunteers in a field of advocacy for humanitarian actions. The project specifically contributed to the development of qualitative material, training and volunteers in the field of advocacy for humanitarian actions. 10 training seminars were conducted in both Kaunas and Vilnius and 30 experts were properly trained for advocacy in humanitarian actions accordingly. An informal group of 8 volunteers was set up that would back up refugees and other vulnerable people in the months to come. Qualitative training material including a textbook entitled „NGO sector‘s advocacy for humanitarian actions“ were meticulously prepared and published on-line. As a result all NGOs, universities, humanitarian experts and governmental agencies will be able to capitalize on the project results published and interactively disseminated free of charge.
