Description

The Athéné Upper Secondary Vocational School of Tourism and Business is one of the largest private educational organisations in Hungary, which is applying to the Norway Grants for a teacher training mobility programme for four teachers who would participate in an 8-day job showing at two tourism institutions in Reykjavik. The four beneficiaries are tourism, catering and geography teachers who also teach technical English. After discussing the personal and professional requests of the four participants, the sending and host institutions have assembled the main expectations of the project. Thus the main goals are:studying new professional technologies by doing and observing work practice at the firms and companies which are in connection with the related school; studying sustainable and heritage tourism; improving technical English; preparing a Erasmus+ mobility programme for students; develop social skills (collaboration among teachers and staff members, strengthening team work ) and studying ECVET elements. Long-term impacts are expected both for the individuals who participate in the programme and for the institution in several fields. During the dissemination the aim is to share the social and professional results and benefits of the programme with colleagues, students and school management.

Summary of project results

Our main objectives of the project were: improving linguistic (English) competences, learning and getting to know new technical methods by visiting several touristic companies such as two hotels, a national park, a spa and travel agency. During this observation the participants had the opportunity to study new professional technics. The participants also visited significant tourism spots which are on the Word Heritage List for example Pingvellir National Park and other important tourist attractions. In addition they had the possibility to prepare mutual Ersmus+ KA1 mobility program for our students in the future. Thus we are planning to apply for suport at Erasmus+ foundation for 2018.

Summary of bilateral results

The beneficiaries had the opportunity to update the knowledge, improve their English, develop their personal competences and skills. We also got to know some special parts of tourism and catering such as natural sustainable heritage tourism and visited those kind of destinations we teach about. Our school got the possibility to work out a common project and start collaboration with two host companies (Foss Hotel Nupar and Foss Hotel Hekla) in order to send students for Erasums+ KA1 work practice in the coming years. The other advantage of the program is that during the observation of the companies and study tours the four participants could get a lot of experiences on the areas the tourism, catering, art history, communication and finance.
