Summary of project results

Children living in farms in South-East Hungary are socially isolated, poverty is reproduced. They feel hopeless and barely have visions or future plans. The main objective of the project was to strengthen the self-esteem of the participants, to establish an active community of students and a supportive network of parents, local civics and experts. The project promoter involved 3 schools in different settlements: Mindszent, Székkutas and Hódmezővásárhely. During the project a participatory research was concluded so at the beginning the involved professionals were prepared, they made on-site interviews and evaluated them. On each place teachers were involved; they also participated in drama pedagogy workshops which aim was to give them such drama pedagogy methods that they could use in classes. 16 complex drama workshops were realized in the schools with 16-32 children in several topics in which the children are concerned or interested. 3 permanent groups were formed and 10 more complex workshops were organized for each group where their skills related to performing were developed. During the intense project week, the groups worked on their performances which were shown at the end in the local Cultural Centers. The events became really as community events which were visited by 130-140 local people. The presence of the representatives of local governments and especially the school district headquarters on these events was a great result as at the beginning the school district headquarters did not wanted to allow the schools to be involved in the project. The project promoter paid attention to the continuous evaluation so the results, and experiences were concluded. The closing event was integrated to the “Week of participation” titled program series. Participating children performed in Budapest in real theatrical circumstances in front of a foreign audience which was a huge opportunity and experience for them. The project also contributed to the embeddedness of local civic organizations.
