Summary of project results

The social and economic situation of the sub region is constantly declines: the labor market is weak, the number of workplaces is low and the infrastructure is bad. Roma inhabitants still live in slum-like surroundings; they are not able to reach several public services and to take part in decision-making processes. They are not properly informed thus they miss the available sources. The main objective of the project was to establish a community space that introduces the history and values of Romas, to form a network that integrates Roma communities that represents the interests of Roma people and to ensure the opportunity for organizing multicultural events. During the project implementation such community programs were organized in which every age group could find their interest that ensured better understanding and collaboration between generations, and the possibility to broaden the networks of civic society organizations in the sub-region. 7 forums were organized in different topics, 13 cooperation agreements were signed – 3 of them were Roma Minority Governments and the rest of them were civic organizations. A local history research (including 10 neighboring settlements) was concluded about the Roma families’ history, and relevant equipment, tools, furniture were collected and exhibited. With the help of the project relations among the inhabitants became stronger, the Roma and non-Roma people became more receptive and tolerant and the network of the association has grown.
