Description

The aim of this project is to improve the appreciation of deaf sport, and to save the relics of the last 100 years of Hungarian deaf sport in order to present it to the deaf community as well as to the wider public. The virtual and real exhibitions, interactive community programs, the website, and the Facebook page all will help us to mobilize the deaf youngsters, as well as the elderly who will be more than glad to share their experiences. As a result of these activities the deaf community will be stronger, and the sustainability of deaf sport in Hungary will also improve. This project will not only strengthen the deaf community but also be visible to the wider public which will help the integration of the deaf minority in the wider society. Based on the results of the project we would like to create a new methodology and share it with similar organizations to support them in starting new initiatives.

Summary of project results

The aims of the project were to give a new meaning of the veteran sport heroes’ life by passing their experience on, and to motivate the young deaf people to do sports. All of these activities support the recognition of deaf sport. The club had to solve the challenge of processing the relics of deaf sport history and show them for the wider public through a virtual exhibition. Beside the existing volunteers new supporters are involved in the project. The virtual exhibition is available, new relics will be uploaded continuously. The veterans are grateful, youngsters are open for doing sport. The club got a lot of support and encouragment to continue the project. The team is proud of the results: appr. 2000 relics were catalogued, a part of them are already shown in the virtual exhibition, 8 events were organized in Budapest and in the countryside, 8 short videos were created about deaf sport and a manual was written. The team gained experiences in event organizing, communication, project management and administration.
