Description

The project will create dialogue among social groups, who are in supposed or real clash of interest, by the help of sport and the special rules of Fair Play football, hereby making positive human relations and getting closer to each other. The aim is also to work out, test and introduce the monitoring system of the organization. The project is aimed towards socially vulnerable groups who are in social conflicts: homeless people, Roma people and other minorities, people living with disabilities, employees of law enforcement organizations. The activities will consist of organising matches, exploring sponsors and new co-operating partners; working out, testing, confirming, introducing of a monitoring system and performing efficiency measurements. Our intention is to enhance participation with cooperative partners, mainly local civilians and local authorities, in the operation of the monitoring system, and they will take an active part in follow-up work and efficiency control.

Summary of project results

In Hungary the presence of intense tension between certain social actors and groups can be experienced. Reduction and solution of this unrest and tension are crucial in shaping healthy local community life. One of the most serious social and economic problems is ethnic discrimination in which both (discriminating and discriminated) parties get severely injured. The problem is rooted in the lack of dialogue between conflicting groups; the distance between them is growing by strengthening stereotypes therefore even the smallest communities cannot be free from an inciting, threatening and frightening atmosphere. In our opinion this problem is caused by the lack of dialogue. An even more serious issue is that before launching our project there had not been any local or national programs that used the popularity and personal development power of sport to make conflicting social groups (opposing because of assumed or real conflicts of interest) start a dialogue, help local discourse begin and manage tensions. Our project aimed to fill this space by resolving recently intensifying social conflicts with the help of a unique and innovative method. For reaching resolution we have organized football tournaments – applying special rules – jointly experienced by target groups. These tournaments were able to break walls of stereotypes and made participants more recipient and open to each-other through individual experiences. Our program sought to provide favourable solutions and a place for dialogue in the field of conflict resolution and development of social competencies using the community building power of sport and popularity of football. Thus it could act as a trigger for dialogue between social groups that would mistrust or reject each-other in certain cases.
