Description

The goal of the project is to stop the isolation of Pere and the course of segregation, to reduce unemployment and poverty, to increase the knowledge of children and to demonstrate that it is possible to establish a working and sustainable model in a village of less than 500 people in Northern Hungary. The narrower target group are children and unemployed of Pere. In a wider sense everyone who experiences the positive impact of the program in Pere: volunteers and tourists seeing a positive example. The two main activities are starting up a social enterprise with the village people within the framework of community based tourism and also our volunteer program, through which volunteers hold development activities for the families. The project promoters would also like to involve in their enterprise other similar villages to approach together primarily the international tourists. With their volunteer program they would also like to reach out to children living close to Pere (e.g Fügöd, which is turning into a ghetto).

Summary of project results

The InDaHouse group of Social Innovation Foundation achieved the "Csere-Bere-Gyere-Pere" volunteer and social enterprise program in Pere between 1th March 2015 and 30th April 2016. The project had two major parts: During the 14 month volunteer program 150 people helped the cause in the little, 360 resident village, called Pere. Here they organized programs for the local children. In Pere roma and not roma children live together mostly in poverty with poor school experiences. Every two weeks 6-8 volunteers participate in early childhood development, pre-school program, group and individual skill development and organize camps in every school break. The project initiated two social enterprises together with the locals for its long term sustainability. Part of the amount tourist pay for their stay in the InDaHouse Guesthouse supports the finance of the child programs. The income of the 1,5 hour thematic village tour goes to the locals who organize and host it.
