Description

People living with disability seem to be very a homogenous group for the majority although it is a heterogenic group of people. It means: we all own different abilities. The objective of the project is to form this micro-society into a visible community, which is equal part of the society, having the same possibilities, opportunities and rights that the “so called majority” has - even by confronting the decision makers if needed. The aim is to achieve the cooperation of the local institutions and to involve their experts into the project even with some possible confrontation but independently on the actual decision makers or any governments in power. The output of the project is a demonstration and a campaign supporting it in Budapest involving disabled and “healthy” people too which this ways is a field of the real experience. The target group is the whole Hungarian society.

Summary of project results

RCM is a grass root organization, a social initiative in the interest of people with disabilities. The Hungarian society is still very underdeveloped in providing equal opportunities, equal treatment and equal rights to people with disabilities which is a basic human minimum. RCM organized their second march in the spring of 2015. They managed to call nearly 5000 people to the streets to make this issue visible. Their most important goal is to present the members of this seemingly homogenous, but in many ways heterogeneous community as of equal value and visible to other parts of society- even in the face of confrontation with governing powers. During the 2nd march of RCM everyone could experience and emphasize with others skill sets and shortcomings, which had a liberating effect on everyone. The event was described in the media as the happiest and most honorable parade. Meeting in real life, the joint march of able bodied and disabled people was a positive experience for everyone.
