Summary of project results

The phenomena of discrimination and segregation of ethnic groups appears in society and institutions. There are no community places where youth could do different activities together that would start mutual acceptance. The objective of the project was to create a low-threshold community place where the social networks between Roma and non Roma youth would develop, with the help of music and common art activities. After finding the most suitable place where the community place was established and formed the members of the association renovated it; they did together every work which did not required professionals like cleaning, painting and landscaping. Donations ensured the furniture and equipment of the community house. Youth was reached by personal contacts, and also informational day was organized. 15 band made agreement with the Association, some of them participated in concert events of the project. The club house hosted several community events answering the needs of local youth e.g. American day, film club, Roma Day, Carnival, Quiz night and different music style nights. Every program initiated discussion between the participants, so youth could express their views on social exclusion, differences, human dignity, human rights and civil rights movements. In order to strengthen the acceptance and integration of Roma youth 2 flashmobs were organized. For the closing concert the association expected more people than for the usual programs thus it was organized in a different place – altogether 260-280 youth participated in the concert. The project ensured a community place where youth can spend their free time without being forced to consume. The attitudechange both in Roma and non-Roma youth can be observed.
