Summary of project results

Families from the slum areas of Miskolc have low income. Their children come from disadvantageous circumstances, the number of them who commit crimes or gets infringement increases. There is a lack of recreation for these youth thus they spend much time on the streets. The main objective of the project was to ensure crime prevention programs, activities and counseling for youth in order to decrease their socialization disadvantages. The project promoter did low-threshold visiting work and established hot spots where mobile sport possibilities were ensured -on weekends. More than 6000 youth visited the hot spots, and asked consultation for 314 times – mainly about career, labor-market and education. A peer training was organized twice for the 34 involved youth so several competencies were developed like common thinking, self-knowledge, self-confidence, trust in others, acceptance, responsibility, conflict management and so on. Youth had the possibility to do voluntary work within the project so many of them contributed to the operation of hot spots. The project promoter cooperated with other organizations thus some if the volunteers could join the work of different NGOs e.g. they participated in the implementation of CineFest. A community action was also organized with the participation of 50 youth. During the project volunteers worked more than 2000 hours. The project had a good effect on the local youth: they become more conscious, they accept and trust in the professionals (e.g. in consultation) and their motivation for volunteering has grown. The project promoter made cooperation with several other organizations so its network was also enlarged.
