Description

Families with autistic members face difficulties day by day. Social actors, service providers and the legal system are not ready for the active appearance of autistic people in the society. They are victims of discrimination and legal impairment. The objective is to evolve a strong, transparent, democratic and cooperative organization that aims to manage efficient communication in order to involve members and partners, and build a high quality service system on the real needs. It contributes to the formation of a reliable and professional background, and an up-to-date database. Advocacy will become organized and efficient when the institutions will realize autism-specific services in education, health care and public services. The discrimination and the number of legal impairment will decrease and the quality of life of families gets better. The activities will be legal counseling, organizational development trough trainings, networking and presentations. The project gives IT and communication support for organizations, and the target group contains organizations that were established in order to support people and families who face autism.

Summary of project results

Families with autistic members face difficulties day by day. Social actors, service providers and the legal system are not ready for the active appearance of autistic people in the society. They are victims of discrimination and legal impairment. The objective of the project was to evolve a strong, transparent, democratic and cooperative organization that aims to manage efficient communication in order to involve members and partners, and build a high quality service system on the real needs. It contributes to the formation of a reliable and professional background, and an up-to-date database. The main activities were legal counseling, organizational development through trainings, networking and presentations. The project provided IT and communication support for organizations, and the target group contained organizations that were established in order to support people and families who face autism. In the frame of the project a thorough network development was concluded with the active involvement of 19 local organizations, who jointly assessed the situation of organizations working for people with autism. Based on this assessment they formed their development strategy, and the leaders elaborated a detailed action plan to combat the encountered problems. The networking provided the opportunity for the local organizations to work together, and also a plan was created how to set up information points nationwide. The common work created common thinking, idea-exchange and successful learning processes to the members. The participating organizations were trained in various field as well, and through this their advocacy capacities were significantly improved.
