Description

The aim of the project is to reduce the school dropout among young Roma people in Kecskemét and to enhance their career orientation, as well as to develop their creativity by development of IT skills. The main target group are teenagers who are visitors of the Computer Clubhouse or pupils of neighborhood schools. We also target adults and young volunteers who participate in the project, the broader environment of the participants, and the whole local community. Within the frame of this project the participants learn the basics of music editing, video-cutting and photography, and create artworks. With the help of role-models they see examples which help them making decisions about their career or further education. If necessary they can take part in additional classes in specific subjects. the thought is that the students will present their work to the city community. As a result of the partnerships built during the project, further programs may be implemented in the Clubhouse together with educational institutions or NGO-s.

Summary of project results

The project based on the interest, problem and talent of those youth who visited the Clubhouse regularly. The biggest achievement of the project is the process, how the community building of young people and the change in the operator organisation of the clubhouse could be managed parallel and good level. All participants of the project (children, youth, mentors and volunteers) became active members of Kék Elefánt, which is a guarantee of the sustainability. The first joint product was the clip, which was produced during the „summer camp” and was the work and creation of youth. It was a great success and gave the energy to the later „live music concerts”. The participated children, youth and the mentors and volunteers built deep attachment to each others. We recruited participants personally in schools, with posters, leaflets, and through Facebook. All different type of recruitment had success. There was no project partner.
