Description

The project intends to support, and distribute media literacy, and educate democratic values in the early life. This approach of education has been missing so far in Hungary. The project is focusing on the age-group, which has been left out of the media education up to now in Hungary. In the project media literacy activity for kids, teacher trainings, propagation of the media literacy, and creation of a media education network for teachers is realized. During the project the MOPED educational packet in kindergartens and schools in three different towns are introduced. Related to the education teachers and kindergarten teachers participate on trainings and on supervisions. To promote Moped packet and media literacy road-shows will be realized in 6-7 towns. As part of the project a special network is created for teachers who are involved in the media and democracy education. In the project 210-220 children, 250 teachers, and 150 parents are involved.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project was to promote media education and democratic values in education in early childhood (5-12 y.o.). Media competence had not been presented in education in Hungary, especially not for this age group. The project promoter elaborated a freely accessible and usable media educational program, called ‘Moped’. The project had 3 parts: training 14 pedagogies in 3 towns who could try out the program in their classes; 8 roadshows in 7 towns; building network via Internet, and development of the project promoter’s website. New study report and its translation were published about media pedagogy. The results showed that the teachers became motivated and interested about the topics. The Moped program could become widely used in Hungarian kindergartens’ and schools’ education system.
