Description

The target area of the project is Veresegyház region where the number of inhabitants doubled in the past 20 years and also the unemployment rate has reached a very high level recently. Most of the parents are undereducated, unemployed, have low income, or live under subsistence level and raise several children. The current education system cannot properly support these children, including drug users and stragglers at the age between 11 and 18. Therefore, the objective of the project is to organize a special thematic program for disadvantaged (drug user and straggler) children: 10 pre-developed prevention-based thematic programs in 8 settlements of Veresegyház region (including trainings, presentations, talent show, summer camp, etc.) The target group consists of mildly disabled children and also children with deviant behavior, approx. 500 disadvantaged, 11-18 years old students.

Summary of project results

The main object of the project was to organize thematic educational prevention programs in the Veresegyházi Sub region in order to decrease the number of young stragglers in the sub region and to decrease the number of drug and alcohol users. Altogether 966 youth took part at the project, 16 volunteers joined. There were 4 camps with thematic programs, trainings for volunteers, talent shows in 6 settlements and club events monthly. According to the statistics of Child Welfare Service there were 114 less stragglers in the region as a result of the project, also the number of drug and alcohol user youth decreased. The volunteers undertook that they continue the club events and the project programs, because the target group needs them. The project promoter measured the results with questionnaires that were sent to 505 youth. At the beginning 123 of them wanted to join to the program; at the end 90% of the responders wrote that they were satisfied and would take part at such programs in the future.
