Description

It is more dangerous to be a battered woman in Hungary, than in most other European countries. Meanwhile the legislative process shows a lack of political will, reflecting on the hostile political environment in relation to women's human rights. Some recent international and national developments are likely to result in more victims coming forward and seeking services, and for a need for coordinated advocacy for legislation. The project objectives are effective intervention and prevention regarding violence against women with capacity building related to know-how on supporting victimes and on advocating for human rights-based approach in legislation. Methods: training, mentoring, supervision provided to NGOs, creation and dissemination of publications. Beneficiaries: women affected by violence and their children. Target groups: NGOs providing services to battered women and their children, women's rights advocacy NGOs, NGOs working with young people, Roma women's NGOs.

Summary of project results

The main objective of the project was to improve the situation of victims of domestic violence in Hungary (which is very worrying at the moment according to the victims who contact our organisation though different channels - the hotline, e-mails, FB - partially because there is a lack of knowledge about DV in general, and a lot of misinformation about how one should help the victims). NANE obtained these objectives through involving different NGO-s into the project who are dealing with victims of domestic violence regularly, but it's not necessarily their main profile, providing them with trainings, information materials, mentoring, supervision, and organizing joint actions together. The objectives of the project were reached full extent, and the connection and the support between the organisations involved and NANE remains active and alive: continuously providing them materials, and some consultations, and working together in the future as well on similar projects.
