Description

Former prisoners find themselves in a difficult situation in the labor market, and it is hard for them to find employment. This can result in a number of isolating situations. The objective is the reduction of economic/social and/or political marginalization, creation of (re)integration possibilities, launching a change in social attitude, fighting against discrimination and inequality. The project will strengthen family and community relations of detainees and former prisoners, facilitate their post-release reintegration, provide services to support their social inclusion. ‪The project will address the challenges through an information base for the target group, and further on with an operational charity shop, community activities (re-use/craftsman programme), exchange café for professionals who are interested and other relative groups. The project will benefit detainees and former prisoners, their family members, relatives and the members of the majority of the society.

Summary of project results

It is generally true that people in/after detention are on average young, with low education, bad social circumstances and weak labour market status, coupled with fragile health condition. These impediments are aggravated by detention detriments, and weakening family/human ties. The most significant result of the project has been reaching out to people released from detention and to their family members. The most important objective is to reinforce family, relative and other social bonds, and to provide basic social services for clients. These goals have been achieved by supportive contacts, talk sessions, and by re-use and other community development programs. Apart from reinforcing natural social bonds, the project has extended Change-Lanes Foundation's support, promoting its social acceptance and embeddedness. Thus, the organization could improve, continue and increase the significance of social/informative/leisure/community building projects for people after detention and their relatives.
