Description

Impaired people have to live their lives in a world that prioritises the needs of those living without disabilities. The objective is to strengthen and develop relations and cooperation, thereby reducing fears against the disabled and lifting the emotional barrier between healthy and impaired people. The project intends to introduce the everyday lives of the impaired with the help of assistance dogs; shape the social values of healthy children and adults, develope their social skills; promote the integration of the disabled. The project addresses the challenges by public awareness raising activities at pre-schools, schools and at work places; presentation of assistance dog/dog assisted para-sports; making a video programme short film and media appearances. The target groups are people living with disabilities, people in need of an assistance dog; people participating in the trainings.

Summary of project results

In the 2013-14 project of NEO Hungarian Assistance Dogs Organization, the implementers focused on showing the life of the disabled, hearing or visually impaired with assistance dogs to healthy children and adults. The Organization managed to provide the following, inter-related services: 1. They continued the training of assistance dogs. 2.Thye completed sensitizing assistance dog-programs to facilitate the integration of the disabled. 3. They created short films about the life of the disabled people and their assistance dogs. The target of their project were healthy children in elementary- and nursery schools; adult groups at their workplace. The project reached all together more than 6500 people personally, in 45 minute presentations. Using the media and their short films, the indirect target of the project were the disabled, and those who already have assistance dogs. The project aimed to facilitate the integration of the disabled and to promote the provision of equal opportunities for them.
