Description

In the case of multiply impaired or mentally challenged children, verbal communication is often difficult or impossible; it proves to be a problem both in their development and in their immediate family circle. Different forms of alternative communication are rarely or never used in institutionalised education. Promotion of professional and social acceptance of pictorial, alternative communication. Facilitate access to equipment and methods for development. Aiding development and communication within the families of children and young adults who either have speech impediments, are illiterate, or cognitively impaired. Collecting equipment and aid for development; consultation with the families concerned; developing pictures, cards and screening; developing a website, organising publicity campaigns, publishing an information package. Families raising either verbally challenged or mute children/young adults.

Summary of project results

Reducing the burden of families with disabled children and dissemination of alternative communication made the project necessary. The objective was to help the development of children with communication disabilities. Due to the available materials, the development of children became more colorful. Through the brochure and through the Internet the organization drew attention to alternative communication. They held consultations meetings, made a new website, and published a study, a tale and a brochure with picture cards. They contributed to the more effective development of many children by result of posting development materials, brochure and Internet access. They maintain and develop the website and Facebook page, upon request they send by post the printed materials and distribute the printed brochures in all possible forums. The beneficiaries are families with children who need development and professionals, who have the advantage of free access to development materials.
