Description

Adoptive families are often isolated and struggle alone with their special problems. There is much prejudice and ignorance in society about adoption. Supporting adoptive families by involving fellow adoptive helpers. The objective is to relieve isolation of families in the scope of the foundation, formation of a helping community and building a voluntary mentor network. Sharing information in order to make adoption more acceptable for a larger number of people, reducing prejudice, aiding taking up adoption unreservedly. Playing an active role in making adoption more socially acceptable. Adoptive parents and young adopted get actively involved in helping others by sharing their own example and experiences with them. Volunteer mentor training for adoptive parents; peer helper training for adopted adolescents; making a documentary about adoption with the participation of families. Summary of project results

Adoptive families often have segregated special problems. There is plenty prejudice and ignorance regarding adoption in the society. The main goal of the project is facilitating social acceptance.The aim is that the Ágacska Foundation shows the needs of adoptive families through their own examples and woth their participation in the social integration of adoptive families. The Foundation's goal to conquer the families' isolation is ensured by helping the creation of a volunteer mentor network, information transfer, reduction of prejudices. The main tools in the project were: - Volunteer mentor training for 24 adoptive parents. - Volunteer peer training for 20 adopted adolescents. - Documentary film entitled "For Eachother" with adoptive families about the strength of a support network. Due to the project, the mentors and peers are committed to further assisting families on the basis of knowledge obtained during the training.
