Description

There are bad practices of functioning of the Council of students in our community. Presidents of classes are not informed about their rights and obligations. For classes they don't have an important role. They don't discuss with other students about the problems in their classroom and school. Students are not organized, informed and educated. The resistance of school systems towards the inclusion students in the decision making processes is strong. With this project democratic values and human rights in elementary schools are promoted through the education of students and increased interests in the public about human rights. Project activities are: meetings and trainings of the project team, informative lecture for the Teachers' Council, workshops for the Council of students, support and assistance in organizing and conducting meetings of students Council, informing students of all classes, activities for increasing interests in public, actions for the common good, monitoring and evaluation. The project will be conducted in period from 01.07.2015. to 31.08.2016. in two Elementary school in Zaprešić and Brdovec. Target users are students and teachers.

Summary of project results

There is a lack of quality in practice of functioning of the Student Council in the local community. Presidents of classes have a lack of information about their rights and obligations. Their role in classes is underrated. They do not discuss the problems in their classroom and school with other students. Students are not organised, informed and educated. There is a strong resistance in school systems towards the inclusion of students in the decision-making processes. According to the evaluation of project implementation, the following can be concluded: - The average value of students self-assessment of their own level of knowledge is wider after educational cycle compared to before, for all of the educational workshops in which they have participated - Self-assessment of the level of knowledge of students about all of the educational workshops increased significantly after student participation in education. Most of the students found participation in educational workshops useful, interesting, stimulating and fun. - Students cite a wider content of adopted knowledge and skills associated with the themes of educational workshops. Some of them are the rights and duties of the Student Council, the functioning of the Student Council, communication, presentation skills, children's rights, volunteering, SWOT analysis, etc. - Educational workshops, meetings of the Student Council, informing students about children's rights and the rights and duties of the Student Council are estimated useful or extremely useful project activity. - Actions for the common good held in the elementary school Ljudevita Gaja ("Easter eggs" and "School dance") participants estimated extremely useful. The action for the common good held in the elementary school Pavao Belas participants estimated less useful. - The activity of the Student Council in elementary school Ljudevita Gaja improved by 80%, and in the elementary school Pavao Belas for 70%. For the purpose of human rights education 40 educational workshops for members of the Student Council, 30 meetings of the Student Council and 12 preparatory workshops were organised. 68 students attended educational workshops.
