The project will address these challenges by organizing panel discussions, contact radio shows, local campaigns, forums for citizens media appearances, posting on social networks and editing website. The public administration staff and young people will benefit from this project. The island of Lošinj undergoes rapid changes, due to foreign investments onrush. The rapid changes have prompted citizens to organize themselves and by media campaigns to influence the government in order to increase their responsibility.

Summary of project results

The Initiative „A man that fits the island“ gathered the citizens of the island of Lošinj who decided to oppose against the large and rapid changes in the public space to the detriment of the quality of life of island's citizens and non-transparent decision making of local authorities. The Initiative held three public hearings and public meetings, as well as several work actions. It opened a Facebook page on which it daily publishes comments on the situation in the area and it is followed by 968 people. It came forward in the media on the local Internet portal volim-losnj.org and shocked the public but also encouraged the local government to act. „A man that fits the island“ initiated for the first time implementation of the Code of Practice on Consultation with the Interested Public and managed to prevent the proposed changes. The Initiative launched the Initiative for the Establishment of Local Committees in Mali Losinj which, as the largest town on the island, does not have any local committees. The Inititative still has a lot of hard work ahead, after the expiration of the project implementation period, to prevent sale and privatization of most public spaces on the island.
