Description

In spite of declarative promotion of equality for all citizens, some social groups remain exposed to discrimination and marginalization. When it comes to youth, many often forget that youth is a heterogeneous category, formed of different sub-groups. Among them, young people without proper parental care, with disabilities and LGBT youth are particularly endangered. Hence, the goal of this action is to sensitize their peers, as well as other citizens to the problems they are facing and to contribute to their social inclusion, so that they could truly have equal opportunities as other members of the society. Visual solutions (posters, stickers, stencils) will be created based on the output of focus groups, formed by members of the mentioned minority groups. The solutions will be used in a guerrilla campaign (as a form of street art) in order to draw attention to the public. Visibility will also be increased through the web portal and social networks of the youth association called Info zone.

Summary of project results

During the focus group phase with young people without adequate parent care, young people with disabilities and LGBT young people, the participants spoke about their problems and difficulties, they shared their attitudes and thoughts regarding their position in society. During the street art workshops, a group of volunteers (peers of the fore mentioned marginalized youth), were informed about needs, problems and potentials of their peers and they received an opportunity to help them by finding the best solutions for transferring their messages to the public. During the workshops, young volunteers showed a huge interest for the subject and for means to fight inequality, discrimination and marginalization of their peers. The guerrilla campaign, through which stickers, billboards and stencils have been used to transmit messages of marginalized youth, reached the public. Also, the public was informed about needs, problems and potentials of marginalized youth by the usage of media.
