Description

Energy consumption in the transport sector constitutes about 25% of the total energy consumption in Europe and is responsible for 25% of emissions of greenhouse gases. Given the significant part that transportation plays in energy consumption, efficiency improvements in the vehicle fleet would be a valuable contribution to the European Commission's goal to increase energy efficiency with 20% by 2020. The main goal of the project is a substantial improvement in the energy efficiency and in minimizing the environmental impact of vehicle fleets, by: (i) the definition of Key Performance Indicators to evaluate the performance of the fleet; (ii) the development of a prototype to analyze in real-time data integrating these indicators and allowing the prediction of the data received. The project will address the challenges by a predictive fleet management system in real time. The project outcome is expected to benefit enterprises managing road transport fleets.

Summary of project results

There is a big need for reducing the energy consumption in goods transport. The main goal of the project is a substantial improvement in the energy efficiency and in minimizing the environmental impact of vehicle fleets, by (i) the definition of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the performance of the fleet and (ii) the development of a prototype to analyse in real-time data integrating these indicators and allowing the prediction of the data received. At the end of the project the KPIs have been defined, and a prototype to analyse in real-time data integrating these indicators has been developed.The impact is a new product to reduce the energy consumption in goods transport and CO2 emissions. The outcome has been to get a system/prototype to analyse in real-time data integrating the KPIs. The main output delivered have been the system/prototype to analyse in real-time data integrating the KPIs, software for de model learning and specifications of the system developed.
