Description

The project aims to stimulate economic development in the Czech Republic and reduce economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area through widespread cultural series of 20 workshops, lectures and research, which will completely cover the issue of design and applied arts. Nowadays this domain gains more and more importance in the formation of our society. The lecture topics, divided into very specific thematic sessions, will focus on compact understanding of design and applied arts discipline, research and application of its results and putting of design and applied arts into practice. The main goal of the project is to present contemporary art and culture to broader audience. The project establishes cooperation with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Department of Product Design which has rich experience in research of applied arts. Significant achievements, with the potential to move the field of design and applied arts are expected. Strategic partnership in education in Central Europe shall be a natural continuation of their efforts and opportunity to work on shared goals.

Summary of project results

The project "Future European Design and Applied arts" aimed at presentation of the contemporary art and culture to broader audience. The project introduced an extended annual series of lectures and workshops that deal with the field of design, its current status and future challenges during period of time February 2015 till April 2016. In total 23 events were implemented - lectures, workshops and expert meetings with Czech and foreign experts in cooperation with the Czech universities. Actions were intended for design students, designers and the general public and were held in several Czech cities: Prague, Zlín, Ústí nad Labem, Karlovy Vary. Furthermore two publications were published - Research and Design; and The Future of Design. Cooperation was established with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Department of Product Design which has rich experience in research of applied arts. Thanks to the project international cooperation between Czech and foreign experts was strengthened. Dialogue among design and applied arts participants was initiated. The project contributed to the awareness expansion of the importance of the design and development of creative thinking in the Czech Republic and other participating partner countries.

Summary of bilateral results

The project had one partner from donor countries: The Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trodheim (NTNU - Norges teknisk-naturvitenskapelige universitet). Partner was actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the project. NTNU provided assistance with the project programme, organized the visit of Norwegian experts (Casper Boks, Tore Gulden and André Liem) in Prague in October 2015. The Norwegian experts gave 3 lectures and 1 practical workshop at UMPRUM (Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague). Norwegian partners also provided materials and interviews for two professional publications (Research and Design, and The Future of Design), that were released as a part of the project. Further cooperation is planned after the project is completed. Workshop for design students with Norwegian experts in the Czech Republic or visit at the Norwegian University are planned.
