Description

The project aims to support women working in the media and in consequence to increase their share in decision-making positions. Through these positions they might be later able to change a rather prejudiced portrait of women in the Czech media. Project target groups are formed by women who aspire or could aspire for higher positions in the media and also by the general public. Three NGOs will cooperate in the project, namely Gender Information Centre NORA, NESEHNUTÍ and Žába na prameni. The project will work with a group of 63 women and all its activities either directly support their career course (speedmentoring for female university students of journalism; Mentoring Tour to three Czech universities and coaching leadership skills to women in the media who are currently on a parental leave) or call the attention of the general public to the theme of low and inadequate representation of women in the media. The project is actively supported by mentors, successful Czech women in the media and by universities.

Summary of project results

Women are inadequately low represented in decision-making positions in the Czech media. Moreover, presentation of women in the media often reproduces gender stereotypes. That´s why the project aimed to support women working in the media and in consequence to increase their share in decision-making positions. Through these positions they might be later able to change a rather prejudiced portrait of women in the Czech media. Project target groups were formed by women who aspire or could aspire for higher positions in the media and also by the general public. Three NGOs cooperated in the project. Diversified activities, namely for example publishing the analysis of ownership of Czech media, resumption of anti - award for sexist speech (the president of The Czech Republic has became the winner), coaching od 5 women in media or mentoring meetings all over The Czech Republic, has helped to achieve the objectives of the project. The project worked with a group of 134 women, which has more than twice overcome the expectations. The project was proactive supported by mentors, successful women of Czech media world, and 3 most significant Czech universities.
