The project will address the invisible issue of violence against women in precarious social situation on several levels. Although 90 % of women without home/in precarious social situation have experienced violence in their lives, the issue is invisible and neglected.Therefore, the project will focus awareness raising about violence against women in difficult social situation among the general public and experts (research, books, exhibitions, films, articles). Further, it will (on the collaborative basis) engage women who have experienced violence in the prevention and resolution of violence against women (through sharing stories, cooperation on the exhibition and film). There will be published a brochure for (potential) victims of violence. It will provide information on violence (with a specific emphasis on violence in partnership) and how to protect yourself. We expect higher knowledge on the issue and reduction of prejudices against women in precarious social situation.
Summary of project results
The aim of the project „Focus on Women – we are not invisible!“ was to raise awareness about violence against women in difficult social situation among the general public and experts, to engage women who have experienced violence in the prevention and resolution of violence against women. The aims of the project were reached by: getting the information about the violence against homeless women to the general public, saying that violence and homelessness of women is closely connected (research, book, exhibition, articles, map). The group of 10 women, joined in the project significantly affected the project and its outputs. They were really mobilized and cooperated all the time through sharing stories, cooperation on the exhibition and the map). The cooperation last even after finishing the projet – the women join in with the further activities resulting from the project (the photo exhibition moves on all over the Czech republic and women are introducing it in the new towns, the map has extended online and the women are consulting the online version of it). It was crucial for the target group of women in difficult social situation that they were given a concrete possibility to express themselves. They were given a voice, they brought their difficult life stories to the light with their own words and their own eyes. It is a great change for them, to be seen as experts, to be supported in their own ways of expressing themselves, to be co-authors of the project results and to have responsibility for that. This is an unique experience and thanks to that the women gain not just self-confidence and pride, but also knowledge and skills.
