Description

The project aims to support foreigners discriminated in access to education and to develop intercultural sensitivity of students at elementary and secondary schools. We will offer counseling services and monitor and evaluate cases of discrimination. The outputs will be used to improve this area. We plan to publish a collection of short stories with the theme of integration of young foreigners and use it during the workshops. The project is designed for foreigners, school employees, Czech pupils and the general public, and will take place mainly in Prague and will directly support 280 people.

Summary of project results

The main objectives of this project were to prevent and decrease discrimination of migrant pupils and students within the czech educational system and to empower non-discriminatory attitudes and inter-cultural sensibility of teachers, parents, class/school/mates and general public. We fulfilled those aims via these activities: monitoring of pro-discriminatory attitudes and behavior towards pupils with different mother tongue/migrant background withih czech schools; counselling focused on rights and obligations during school attendance (mostly provided for parents, students), volunteer support (mostly tutoring); publishing information on rights and obligation of all actors of education; publishing story book for a wide range of readers (7 stories on topic „an young person in a foreign country“ presented by contemporary writers) and workshops for pupils. While planning this project we had no idea how relevant and ongoing issue migration was going to be for Czech society; as a result of so called refugee crisis, which consequences influenced mood of the whole society and of course also the atmosphere in schools. Publishing book of stories and workshops reflected actual needs of school aged children and their teachers. There were situations in schools when we had to face strong emotions or help to clear up the idea of workshops for parents of czech pupils. We consider as a positive impact every single change, even in a one man´s(client´s) life. Because if there is but one supported kid there are also his/her parents and teachers supported and empowered with new information, skills and knowledge. And it means, in the future, better situation for other kids with different mother tongue or migration background.
