Description

The project focuses on active participation of Roma (primarily in SouthMoravian region) in combating ethnic discrimination in order to awaken the motivation of victims to reconcile, recognize and use all available legal means to fight and solve discrimination, by raising their awareness and empowerment through community campaigns and participation activities, community education, and formation of a Roma civic platform against discrimination. On a practical level, the project includes an individual follow-up expert advice and legal and social support to victims. The project also supports effective systemic outcomes through improving cooperation between NGOs and the state institutions responsible for tackling discrimination (Ombudsman etc.), and by providing methodological support and training to workers of other NGOs and authorities, who also confront and deal with discrimination against Roma in the Czech Republic.

Summary of project results

The project responded to the high level of discrimination against Roma in the Czech Republic. The main target: to increase active participation of Roma in the fight against ethnic discrimination Subtargets: form a Roma antidiscrimination platform; increase the number of submissions; systematize cooperation with anti-discrimination bodies; and provide methodological support to combat discrimination. Implemented activities: 1. Motivation and mobilization to tackle discrimination;2. Advice on discrimination and subsequent help; 3. Forming third of the Roma Civic Platform against discrimination; 4. System cooperation with relevant institutions to address discrimination; and 5. methodological support and training in tackling discrimination.
