Activities will be realized across social and age spectrum with the active participation of more than 100 volunteers from local minorities, foreigners, including Roma. The aim of the activities is to contribute to reducing borders/limits between people through mutual recognition, improvement of awareness, and support cooperation to demonstrate a positive approach. Icelandic experts will help to transfer methodologies and best practices. Furthermore, the aim is to enhance the development of language education and community coexistence. Project outputs will be disseminated over the Czech Republic through the organization Network of Parent Centers in Czech Republic.

Summary of project results

The project solved problem of coexistence of foreigners and the majority society in Kadan, where lives about 5% of foreigners. The aim of the project was not to assimilate minorities living in the town, but on the contrary, know, understand and respect humanely. Our organization is open to all, offers activities for all ages and social groups, and has a substantial clientele. Many of these clients (and also employees) comes from other minorities, children living in a bilingual environment. We also have good experience and results to international cooperation and social work with the Roma minority. The project was carried out by seven consecutive activities. Over 20 children from socially vulnerable groups here gained meaningful informal educational activity for several months.Nearly 300 people from 10 classrooms received new information about their classmates and their countries and participate in a contest of knowledge about other cultures. The project fulfilled our expectations, both groups became close, improve public opinion about foreigners and reduced xenofobii in society. We have laid the foundations of informal multicultural education in region and gained many new relationships and volunteers. Many foreigners also found ancillary services and also new friendships.
