Description
The project focuses on children with disabilities and their families in the Liberecky region. The goal of the project is to support families through individual and group counselling. The project helps the families to stay together, to show how to work with children with disabilities and teach the foundations of autohygiene. The project provides 50 children with disabilities and their healthy siblings with leisure activities that can help them in their self-realization.
Summary of project results
There is no complex support of families taking care of children with special needs in the Czech Republic. The aim of the project was: first communication information to ease the life of families with a special needs child; support of healthy siblings and caregivers; second the ambulatory support was provided in Liberec, Turnov, Tanvald to support families not living in towns or living in excluded locations; this included individual and group consultancy. 77 families took part in the project. The group consultancy was organized as 19 workshops with 422 persons taking part. Two rehabilitation stays for psychical rehabilitation were organized, the first for families with children to educate them, the second to support the parents. The volunteers worked with children. 34 people took part. The parents become friends and helped each other while meeting in Liberec and Turnov. The healthy siblings got to a rehabilitation to support their psychical condition. We supported 20 healthy siblings from caregivers´ families. The exhausted parents-caregivers do not have support of all family members, moreover they do not have time for themselves. The volunteer centre D.R.A.K. supported together 83 children in tutoring and leisure time activities. 52 children got support in the choice of free time activities. The website of centre D.R.A.K offers an information system to help in various life situation. Also Roma families with children with special needs got involved in the project. The parents got a chance to meet parents in similar situations and formed groups to help themselves a provide support each other.
