Summary of project results

The city of Liberec and its urban societies are currently burdened with a debt in the amount of 1.65 billion Czech Crowns. There were many property transactions unfavourable to the city, leading to frustration of the locals due to such state. Our goal was to contribute to decreasing the chances of corruption occurrence mainly by creating an independent regional anti-corruption office – the Regional Anti-Corruption Office. Our goal was to move the topic of corruption to a general public discussion and inspire the citizens to be active. Now, more and more people contact our office, since they want to address the corruption. Additionally, activity of the public can be observed below every article published on the web, where people discuss extensively. We operate www.nasliberec.cz – a political and civic website with 364,452 visits during the time of the project. We published a Náš Liberec reported – we summarised the most important cases and presented the councillors from the perspective of their voting. We provide fundamental consulting and help solving their cases. However, we also address our own cases. We addressed 4 major cases, for which we gathered all the corresponding documentation. These cases are mostly related to distribution of larger amounts of public funds. We performed negotiations with the Ministry of Interior of the Czech Republic regarding the funding increase of anti-corruption activities, and submitted a proposal to the Liberec Region in order to open a grant call related to this area. We cooperate with OSF on establishing Anti-Corruption Fund for the Liberec Region. We published a total of 730 articles on our website. People discussed and exchanged their opinions below these articles. Thanks to our activities, we created a group of people that are not indifferent to this topic and would like to be further engaged.
