Description

The project reacts on the progress in contemporary society in the field of the human rights – racism and hate speech which has increased recently. The goal of the project is to learn and teach about prejudices and stereotypes and offer the possibility to learn more about Anti-semitism and Anti-Gypsyism, which are mostly published and spread through Internet, through new informational websites and materials, meetings and work in multicultural groups of youth and teachers (pupils, students and teachers of basic and secondary schools). The data from monitoring of Anti-semitism made by Jewish Community in Prague and unique story of the Jewish School in Prague 1920 – 1942 will serve as a background of the informational and pedagogical materials in combination with non-traditional and modern ways of media education, Facing History and Ourselves methodology, open discussions and critical thinking about us and our attitudes toward the minorities.

Summary of project results

The main need of the project was to address the attitudes of the majority to the ethnic and social excluded minorities. Because these attitudes are based on generally shared views, presented by the media, the project focused on media literacy and working with prejudices and manipulation using constructive evaluation and critical thinking. As the reason for the situation was firstly consequences of economic situation, during the project came another reasons, especially the migration, which deepened the frustration and fear in the society. Among the group of social “enemies” are still Roma, recently Muslims. The project helped to build the selfconfidence and self-esteem of the Roma young generation and in workshops for students and teachers from the majority pointed out the sources of our prejudices and gave suggestions how to work with them. The project consisted from 5 activities and referred to the work against anti-Semitism and anti-Gypsyism. We implemented 7 interactive teacher trainings attended by 112 teachers, 2 two-days seminars for project team with international participation, 25 programs for pupils with 460 attenders, 1 youth meeting for pupils from Czech, Jewish and segregated Roma School for 30 young people. We have published special new web sites with Encyclopedia of Antisemitism Today including unique analysis founded on the Database of the Antisemitic Online Sources resources. We have developed and published 9 unique methodologies for teachers regarding to the modern history of Jews and Romas. We have realized two annual happenings Yom ha-Shoah Holocaust Remembrance Day in 2015 and 2016, which was placed in 7/ 11 towns with attending of general public, Holocaust Survivors, students, state and regional authorities.
