Description

The project is a reaction to the lack of tolerance of the Czech society towards migrants, and increasing xenophobia that is not based on personal experiences. It offers unique concept of targeting pupils and students of primary and secondary schools as well as adults to reduce social tension, decrease discrimination, even in cyberspace, and strengthen mutual coexistence. It will enable meetings of majority and migrants through debates, workshops and media tools, thus inspiring the majority to actively participate in integration and to support development of multicultural society.

Summary of project results

The project reflected the adverse impact of intensifying xenophobic and anti-migrant sentiments in the Czech society, both on the personal lives of migrants as well as their mutual coexistence with the majority society. The stereotypes are transmitted from generation to generation, even though they have no basis in reality nor personal experience with migrants. The risk of radicalization is particularly alarming among the youngsters. This must be eliminated by appropriate measures focused on development of an active integration policy and implementation of integration projects aiming not only to help specific individuals, but also providing targeted work with the majority society, based on positive personal experiences with migrants. Our project, with its activities concentrated in the regions of Prague and Central Bohemia, fullfilled these objectives. Within the project we organised 8 multicultural evenings for over 230 participants in in Prague and Central Bohemian region with the aim to facilitate the personal contact between the majority society and migrants as well as to enhance multiculturalism at the local level and better tolerance towards migrants. For better publicity and impact, a set of 7 attrative cards with reciepes and stories of migrants was disseminated during the project. In addition, we provided individual assistance to approx. 500 migrants in form of the free of charge legal and social counselling and organised 2 capacity building trainings for migrants with the aim to provide some of them with presentation skills and orientation in social medias. We believe the project brought positive changes for the individuals from both target groups (majority society and migrants), and thus, contributed to the promotion of human rights and multiculturalism in selectedlocalities. Specifically, the project improved the integration, status and opportunities of at least 491 migrants in the Czech society.
