There is, neither in Prostějov nor in any surrounding region, a multicultural center dedicated to bringing together people from different ethnic and cultural backgrounds and helping them develop better relationships, and which would therefore act as a prevention against negative social phenomena as xenopfobia, racism etc. This projects realization will contribute to forming better connections and mutual awareness between long-term settled foreigners and the majority of citizens, and to the development of better multicultural environment in Prostějov’s community. The realization of this project involves renting and furnishing suitable premises and initiating and managing regular activities with multicultural characteristics. There will be held 73 meetings during the realization of this project in order to raise public awareness of cultural differences etc. and 190 meetings focused on helping the majority and minority social groups connections and getting to know each other better. This project will also help to reinforce overall capacity of the organization by developing activities focused on long-term financial sustainability

Summary of project results

The objective of the project was to support a multicultural environment in Prostějov, by creating suitable conditions for meeting, connecting and mutual learning about the majority (citizens of Czech nationality) and the minority (people of other nationalities) parts of society. To achieve this objective, we have established a multicultural centre in Prostějov, called Mozaika. Here, we started organizing educational and cultural events of multicultural character and also the activities conceived so as to enable the mentioned groups of inhabitants to know, understand and accept each other. In course of the project, we held 215 meetings focusing on connecting and mutual learning between majority and minority parts of society. They included: 79 Multicultural Clubs for parents and children with activities focused on children, 57 Multicultural Clubs for parents and children with activities focused on parents, and 79 Tea Room meetings. In addition, we realized 81 educational and cultural activities promoting multicultural environment in Prostějov community. Out of them, there were 3 opening events at the beginning of the project and 78 Multicultural Evenings. Thanks to the implementation of the project, a facility was established in Prostějov that people can attend several times a week to meet, acquire new knowledge and skills, broaden their horizons, become friends with immigrants from different countries, learn tolerance and acceptance of differences, and, also, teach this to their children. Foreigners obtained a space for community meetings and presentation of their cultural heritage, among themselves and towards the majority. The multicultural centre will continue its activities even after the project, even if the form will be slightly modified.
