Description

The personal and socio-psychological characteristics of female offenders identify them as a vulnerable group among the imprisoned persons. The statistics show that significant part of the women in prison in Sliven have low level of education /49% do not have an educational degree/, 60% of the convicted persons do not have a professional qualification. The objective of the project is to improve the opportunities for employability and social inclusion of women including Roma serving a sentence of imprisonment The project outcomes: 1. Development of educational and career-oriented training programs specially adapted to the target group; 2. Improving the professional qualification of 72 sentenced women including 25% Roma; 3. Improvement of the motivation for achievements and key competences of 60 sentenced women including 25% Roma 4. Implementation of trainings Eleven groups of 12 prisoners (a total of 132 imprisoned persons) will be trained on the developed educational and career-oriented training programs for imprisoned persons including 25% individuals of Roma origin or other minority groups.

Summary of project results

A project focused on imprisoned women targeting their needs for improved competitiveness on the labor market, sustainable positive attitude on employment, and thus better re-socialization possibilities. `Learn to be` project was implemented in the only female prison in Bulgaria, namely the one in the city of Sliven. Vocational training to acquire a level of professional qualification of "Landscaping worker" with specialization on "Landscaping and floristry" - 24 trainees completed the course and received valid certificates. Vocational training to acquire a level of professional qualification of "Construction assistant" with specialization on "Basing and finishing construction works" - 12 trainees completed the course and received valid certificates. Vocational training to acquire a level of professional qualification of "Hair dresser" with specialization on "Hair dressing" - 12 trainees completed the course and received valid certificates. Vocational training to acquire a level of professional qualification of "Worker in the production of culinary products in catering and entertainment places" - 12 trainees completed the course and received valid certificates. Training sessions on time management, team work, working communication and other motivation and social adaptation issues for 24 trainees. The share of women of Roma origin among the trainees was 25% in average for each of the training courses. The introduced training programs had been adapted to the specific training needs of the target group. They proved to be applicable and well accepted by the trainees and would represent a good basis for a multiplication effect.
