Description

The building stock of Centre for Mental Health - Plovdiv is amortized. Parts of the rooms for labor and art therapy in the Day Centre are in a bad condition – there are not separated toilets for the patients and the staff and they are not adapted for disabled people. The project envisages development of a complex program for the stimulation of the creative potential of the patients and improving their labor skills, active application of the different methods of the program, training the staff how to apply the program and providing a suitable infrastructure. No psychiatric centre and hospital provide such a complex program although it is a highly successful way of developing the communicative skills, creativity and social rehabilitation. The families of the mentally ill people need to be supported in the care for their relatives, for their successful return to the community. The project aims at creation of better conditions of life and work in the centre by improving the material and technical base; improving the quality of the therapeutic process; introducing new services for the development of the communicative and creative skills of the patients.

Summary of project results

The overall objective of the project, namely the improvement of the living conditions, the quality of the healing process and the complete social adaptation of the patients of the Center for Mental Health - Plovdiv, was achieved, as follows: - Better conditions for living and working were created in CMH - Plovdiv through the repair of the halls and the adjoining sanitary units, which were fully furnished and equipped for the purposes of the Complex Program, which was provided with the necessary specific consumables and materials; - The quality of the healing activity in CMH - Plovdiv was greatly improved by introducing the Complex Program and the five new services. Thus, the healing process is completed, which already covers not only the active treatment of patients but also their rehabilitation and integration in the society after the discharging of the medical establishment through the development of their communicative and creative skills. At this time, there is not enough shortening of the stay yet, but there is no increase. This will be one of the goals of this activity in the future, but there is a wide variety of therapies for patients to become active participants in the healing process according to their individual needs and abilities. - Most of the staff acquired new competencies through additional training in areas related to patient care in connection with the introduced Complex Program and the five new services included therein. Significant progress has been made towards avoiding addiction and hospitalization of chronically ill patients, thus achieving significant results in the direction of institutionalization. All this has ensured the possibility of achieving a stable behavioral state for patients.
