Description

The problem with treatment of severe mental cases affects bigger communities including as direct sufferers, their relatives, friends, colleagues and society in general. The problem is also related to the equal access to medical treatment, poverty, vagrancy and homelessness. In Sofia around 6000 people suffer from schizophrenia. Access to mental health services at home and district level needs assessment of the mental health situation in the town depending on the capabilities for dealing with new opportunities. The project aims at creation, approbation and application of tools for assessment of opportunities for social inclusion of people with mental disorders, and a methodology for improvement of social skills of children with special needs, ugrading competences of medical specialists working at hospitals and of parents of children with special needs through specialized trainings, and improvement of the conditions for treatment at the Medical Health Center “Prof. Nikola Shipkovenski” through construction activities. The project will benefit mentally ill people, their families, local community and medical specialists.

Summary of project results

By the implementation of the project there has been achieved the overall objective of the project, which is: Creation, approbation and application of tools to assess opportunities for social inclusion of persons with mental illness and methodology to improve the social skills of children with special needs. Project completion leads positive developments and results that will contribute to the development of the whole sector. Namely the project objectives achieved are: • Creation of an innovative model for psychosocial assessment and opportunities for social inclusion - through the elaboration and appraisal of the Toolkit for assessment of the possibilities for social inclusion of persons with mental illness; • Development of a new methodology for improving the social skills of children with special needs; • Upgrading the competencies of medical specialists working in medical establishments, parents of children with special needs through specialized trainings - by conducting 7 training sessions, which include 170 medical specialists working in medical establishments; • Improvement of treatment conditions through repairs in the "Prof. Nikola Shipkovenski" Ltd - through the quality carried out with the project repair works in the premises of the Center; • Creating an Innovative Individual Short-Term Therapy Plan to Enhance Social Inclusion for People with Mental Illness, Complying with the Psychosocial Assessment of Social Inclusion Possibilities - Through the Development of ICT; • Established and equipped workshops for increasing the capacity of children and adults - by training the staff in patient-friendly soap making technology and training of patients for work process and creation, respectively, recovery work habits.
