Description

The main problems could be summarized as follows: Buildings not meeting normative standards such as operation fire system, endagering the lives of the patients ; Buildings not meeting purpose requirements and standards - isolation rooms, providing not the expected level of security for the patient; Building not meeting constructive and hygiene standards; Obsolete and broken machines; washing machines endangering meeting of the hygiene standards; obsolete and broken stationary hospital beds); Not satisfying level of qualification and motivation of staff, esp. nurses. All problems beyond addressed through the project are dedicated to implementation of the national medicine standard on psychiatry. The project is expected to improve the living conditions by modernization and infrastructural upgrade of the hospital, as well as provision of modern medical care by installment of new medical equipment; to introduce new forms of care for patients; to raise the qualifications of hospital care staff. The project will benefit mental health patients treated at SPH-Kardzhali and medical staff working at the hospital, especially psychiatric nurses.

Summary of project results

This project is aimed entirely at improving the quality of the health services provided to the patients and their relatives from the Kardzhali SPH. It exclusively includes activities that directly aim to improve the quality of hospital stay and living conditions by improving mental health services that best meet national healthcare priorities arising from international, European and national treaties and legislation in Bulgaria. All results that were planned for the project implementation were achieved. The project meets the following result indicators, relevant to the programme: - Number of renovated inpatient psychiatric care units in state psychiatric hospitals – 6; - Number of trained staff at psychiatric hospitals – 55. The following project outcomes are defined: - Improved safety, hygiene, living conditions and reduced nosocomial infections risk of the patients at SPH-Kardzhali; - Improved opportunities for faster and better quality treatment of the patients with reduction of the side effects; - Better trained and motivated personal to meet the needs of specialized services of the patients; - Readiness for offering of new specialized services. The project fulfilment has a positive impact on the cooperation with different health institutions and stakeholders as the increase in the capacity of Kardzhali SPH (through supply of additional medical equipment and equipment, betterment of the competence of the medical personnel and, last but not least, the provision of a reliable material base), allows faster and better treatment for more patients (with a wider range of diseases).
