Description

The project addresses the need to boost the applicant’s capacity in order to provide better quality services to its target group of cancer patients and their families. The project aims at boosting the applicant’s capacity through a series of events. First, the project will be presented to the local community. Second, 20 volunteers will attend a 2-day training to learn to take care of cancer patients. Third, 65 people will learn about good practices in care for cancer patients at a national conference on cancer issues. Fourth, a 2-day seminar on good German practices for care of cancer patients will be held. Finally, a charity concert will be organized to raise public opinion and money. The project will benefit the applicant, other NGOs involved, volunteers, cancer patients and their families and the local community in general.

Summary of project results

The project promoted the organisation's work which contributed to increasing the sensitivity of the people towards the problems of people with cancer diseases. The result of the implementation the project is an established good partnership between the participating NGOs and the government representatives; increased knowledge and skills of members of the association to attract volunteers to the organisation’s cause. As a result of the project: - 46 volunteers were trained to take care of and provide support to cancer patients; - 20 representatives of 10 NGOs participated in the workshop for the transfer of German experience in social work; - 65 participants from 17 NGOs from all over the country participated in the national conference on cancer; around 100 people participated in the charity event; - the project activities drew the attention of more than 10 media. The members of the Association "Cancer Patients and Friends" took active part in all project activities as volunteers, organizers, participants, etc. The association enhanced its capacity in project management, increased its membership and resource of volunteers, created new partnerships with other organizations and institutions, and increased their knowledge and skills in social work with cancer patients.
