The project addresses the need to raise the capacity of NGOs in the city of Varna to attract donors and thus boost their financial sustainability. The project aims at boosting their capacity through a series of trainings, giving promoters and an online platform for donations. First, staff members from 20 Varna NGOs will be trained during a 2-day workshop in innovative fundraising models. Second, a guide for fundraising NGOs and their donors will be developed. Third, 30 individual donors will be trained to become giving promoters among their colleagues and friends, thus expanding the applicant’s donor pool. Fourth, an online platform for donations with a constantly updated list of causes will be set up. Finally, the video Become a Donor will be created and disseminated. The project will benefit the NGOs in Varna, their clients and potential donors as well as the community in general.
Summary of project results
The project addressed the need to raise the capacity of NGOs in the city of Varna to attract donors and thus boost their financial sustainability. It achieved its goal with the implementation of all planned activities. The focus was along 2 lines: raising awareness and training the interested NGOs how to apply the approved fundraising models, on the one hand, and training and motivating citizens and companies to give. The project contributed for greater transparency of local giving with the help of fundraising mechanisms that improve accountability of the funds raised and spent on particular projects. The following expected results from project implementation were achieved: • 27 NGO representatives raised their capacity with regard to efficient fundraising mechanisms by participating in the training of NGOs for the application of efficient fund-raising mechanisms; • 30 individual donors trained to promote mechanisms and innovative giving models among their colleagues and friends (potential donors) by participation in the training of giving promoters; • 1 integrated platform for online donations on the website of the Public Donation Fund for Varna; • 400 printed and disseminated copies of Guide for NGOs raising funds and their Donors; • 1 information video entitled Become a Donor broadcast 550 times; • 1 information audio entitled Become a Donor broadcast 240 times; • Created section with information about the project on the website of the Public Donation Fund for Varna. The project contributed for better recognition of the Public Donation Fund for Varna as an organization supporting both NGOs and donors to develop more efficient and strategic local giving. The sustainability of the achieved results will be guaranteed by: the improved relations of the Public Donation Fund for Varna with NGOs from Varna and the region that will support more active demand of the services of the Fund by the third sector; the increased interest of potential business donors in giving and in using the services of the Public Donation Fund for Varna channeling giving towards NGO projects (as a result of the work of the trained promoters); the introduced online platform will contribute to increase interest in giving and achieve greater transparency of NGOs raising funds from donors; thus local giving will be mainly addressed towards the third sector.
